Blue Spider Press

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

GUIDELINES:
  • Flytrap Uprising will be published quarterly (four times a year).
  • You should not submit anything time-sensitive, as it may not see publication for months.
  • Acceptance of a submission for publication does not necessarily mean it will appear immediately in the next issue to be released. We may keep your work in a backlog for a future release. If this happens, you will be notified in enough time to rescind your submission if you wish.
  • Please give us two weeks to send notice of acceptance or rejection of your submission. Be sure to include a valid email address or a self-addressed, stamped envelope (for mailed submissions) in order to receive notification that we have received your submission. If you haven't heard from us after 14 days, feel free to send us a query via email. Track the submission acceptance process via Submittable (if you have submitted electronically) before attempting to contact us.
  • We accept submissions from all popular and literary genres, except what is listed in our unacceptable section below.
  • Online submissions are handled via Submittable and require a $3 reading fee. Snail mail submissions cost nothing.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
  • We accept submissions for flash fiction, short stories, novellas, serialized novels, poetry, interviews, review articles, and critical essays.
  • All submissions, print or electronic, must follow standard document formatting--double-spaced, 12-point font, printed only on one side of the page (for manuscript submissions).
  • All submissions must be accompanied by a cover letter that includes an author bio and a short synopsis of the submitted work.
  • We will also be moving shortly into full-scale book publishing. If you wish to publish a serialized novel, we reserve the right to publish the finished novel as well.
  • We also accept submissions of original artwork and photographs for our covers and interiors. Art submissions should ONLY be done electronically. Cover art should be high resolution and have the capability of being resized without diminishing its quality.
  • Mailed manuscript submissions must also include a SASE with adequate postage so that we can send the marked up copy back to you. Return shipping in solely the submitter's responsibility. Be sure to mark your manuscript as DISPOSABLE if you do not need it returned or do not want feedback.
  • Poetry submissions should include a minimum of three poems, all in a single document.

WHAT IS UNACCEPTABLE:
  • Do not submit previously published work.
  • Do not submit outright erotica. There will be times when we will ask for work that pushes the rules, but stories that are smut and not much else will not be accepted.
  • Short story submissions should not be longer than 3,750 words. See above about serializing novels if you would like to publish longer works with us.
  • We will not accept pieces of writing egregiously based in some political or religious agenda, regardless of slant. This applies primarily to non-fiction, but not to satirical pieces. We mainly don't want to see rants.
DISCLAIMER:
